Mojo SDK 1.3.1 Now Available, featuring Pixi emulator support and docs enhancements

5 BY devrel

Now that Palm Pixi is on the verge of shipping, we’ve released both webOS version 1.3.1 and the new version of the Mojo Software Development Kit.

The highlights of the Mojo SDK version 1.3.1 release are the following;

  • Enhanced Pixi support in emulator
  • API to keep screen from auto-dimming
  • Auto-generation of app Help / Support scene
  • Numerous framework doc enhancements

Elaborating a bit on the last item, we’ve heard the developer community’s feedback about webOS docs loud and clear. You’ll see the first efforts to expand, clarify, and improve quality of the docs with this release. Notably, we’ve provided new step-by-step installation instructions, with more thorough information about how to get your system ready before you download and install the SDK. Start on our Download page by selecting the version of the SDK you’d like to use.

For more complete information about Mojo SDK Version 1.3.1, see the Release Notes on webOSdev.

You should be able to install the 1.3.1 SDK without needing to uninstall the 1.2 SDK first. However, if something doesn’t work right, feel free to follow the “uninstall” instructions and then do a “clean” install of the 1.3.1 SDK.

In addition, if you have trouble with the emulator, make SURE you have VirtualBox 3.0.x installed (not 2.x). Upgrade VirtualBox if necessary (3.0.10 is the latest and is fine), but you might also need to remove the VirtualBox directory (with old VMs and hard disk images) from your home directory (Mac: Library/VirtualBox, Linux:~/.VirtualBox, etc.).

I did some tests with Palm Mojo SDK 1.3.1 but I think that this SDK and Palm webOS need some improvements.

    1) At http://developer.palm.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1788, there is only deb package for Ubuntu.
Can you create RPM package that use LSB ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_Standard_Base ) for Redhat, Mandriva, Suse Linux distribution.
These 3 distributions have LSB support.
I use Mandriva Linux that use RPM packages and I found a workaround to test Palm Pre emulator but it is not perfect : http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/Installing_the_Palm_webOS_SDK_on_Mandriva_Linux (sorry my english is not perfect but I think it will be useful for the users).
    In french here : http://wiki.mandriva.com/fr/Installer_le_Palm_webOS_SDK_sur_Mandriva_Linux

    2) I test Palm Mojo SDK 1.3.1 on French Windows XP SP2 and French Mandriva Linux 2009.1, I start the Palm Pre emulator and choose to switch from english to french, the Palm Pre emulator allow me to choose french language and download my Palm Pre profile but when I click on Finished (Terminé), there is nothing. The Palm Pre emulator stay in English.
Any idea to fix this problem ?
It is very important to me because I need to test some webOS applications before buying a Palm Pre (imported from O2 Germany) and I want to translate in french some webOS applications available in PreWare (http://www.precentral.net/homebrew-apps). But I need a Palm Pre emulator in french to do these tasks.

    3) In the webOS 1.3.1 operating system, there is Palm OS 5.4.9 ROM in english. Can you replace this english PalmOS 5.9 ROM by the EFGS PalmOS 5.9 ROM used in Palm TX in Europe (EFGS for English, French, German and Spanish). With this update, I could have MotionApps Classic in french and it will be useful for me to use some PalmOS applications as Metro (http://www.nanika.net/Metro/index-en.html) in french. I don’t like to use applications in english, I prefer to spend time to translate them in french.
MotionApps Classic in french can be a killer feature when Palm Pre will be available in France, specially for some company that still use expensive PalmOS apps and want to take some time for porting these applications to webOS.

4)When Palm Inc will announce the availability for Palm Pre in France ?
A large number of users of Palm devices are desperate to have no news with Palm Inc for Palm Pre availability in France.
In Paris’s tramways, there is a lot of Iphone and some BlackBerry.
Palm Inc need to informs its old users, Palm Pre in France in 2010 or not ?
Or Pixi and Pre will be never available in France ?

I am trying to install the Palm Mojo SDK 1.3.5 for Windows XP SP3. I keep getting an error. It says “Error 1721. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vender. Action: startnovacomdxp.08B8BE2B_9174_49D1_84B0_403…

Does anyone know what this means?

    Thanks
