That’s great news. Can the Pre Plus be used on Sprint at all? I’m not excited to change carriers, but I’m also unlikely to get the low-end phone.
Thats $120 off the $600 Palm Pre Plus!
Isn’t cheap and Italy is not foreseen…
Can I buy a Pre Plus and activate it on Sprint? Otherwise how does this Pre differ from one bought from a carrier? I have two apps in early development and don’t want to change my carrier (Sprint) but want and need the extra ram and hd space.
The small print says the offer is also available in Canada but no canadian carrier is listed after I click on any of those phones!??
Nice. Oh wait, US/Canada only. Come on, Palm, is it really that hard to provide unlocked GSM units for use anywhere in the world?
Why oh why can’t a buy a Pre Plus in the UK?
Don’t like it. Too expensive, carrier-locked and not for my region.
Another question: is it possible to get the phone and not activate it? For developing iPhone apps, I just bought somebody’s off-contract iPhone and use it purely as a wifi device. If I want to talk friends into trying out the pre development environment, $120 in savings won’t mean much to them if they have to commit to a $2k contract.
I really wish Palm would make a GSM Unlocked version of the Pre. That’s what I’m waiting for.
Doesn’t seem to be much of an offer when you take into consideration that you can get one for $129 with the second one free on deals right now from the carriers. Thats 70% off of the first phone and 100% off on the second phone.
I think Palm is going to have to do a lot better for the developer than this in my opinion.
Will the GSM version be SIM locked to 02?
I hope international also means any Euroepean country. I’ve been waiting since the first rumor of the palm pre to get one and still it hasn’t shown up in my country. Rather pointless to develop apps you can’t even test.
What would have been nicer would have been to be able to purchase them unlocked as nokia and google offer. Guess it’s back to ebay…
Wow. You know, two clicks would have given comments #1 and #4 their answer. Click on the link to the developer purchase program, then click on the Pre Plus. These two people had to do more work to ask the question as a comment than to find out the answer for themselves.
I have been asking about this every since I started looking into WebOS seriously. This is a good leap of faith Palm is showing it’s developer community.
It’s a shame Palm never offered an unlocked GSM WebOS version phone like you did for the Treo Pro.
This is great news, but I don’t think that you’re quite where you need to be. I think I could sell my company on buying one or two devices to have around to test our sites on webOS, and to potentially do some development, but the 2 year cell phone contract is a deal-breaker.
Any chance that you’ll offer the Pixi Plus or Pre Plus without contract, that can be operated WiFi-only? I understand that in some ways, this may be a bit of a kludge, but I think the cost savings will be well worth it.
Thanks.
Until this includes GSM/3G _UNLOCKED_ devices, it really will not excite me…
Any one know if you can buy a pixi plus and not get verizon service? I would like a pixi plus for testing (need wifi) but don’t need service.
When will developers get GSM? Developers can help Palm with the ticking clock, and the correct tools.
