webOS SDK Version 1.4 now available

Version 1.4 of the webOS SDK is now available on the Developer Portal. Here are some highlights of the new release:

  • webOS now incorporates WebKit 4, which features enhanced CSS support and numerous other improvements.
  • The webOS implementation of the HTML 5 Media API has been updated, bringing closer conformance to the specification, and improvements to audio performance.
  • The Camera API has been extended to let an application initiate video capture, in addition to image capture.
  • The V8 JavaScript engine used in webOS has been updated.

    When will the mic API be released in the WebOS SDK? Is there any reason it is not being used currently?

    PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Palm give us more API support, like the MIC! I really love WebOS and we need this key feature to remain competitive against the likes of Apple and Google. I understand Palm is a smaller company but in order to survive you have to play in the same league as the big boys!

    The only thing holding me back from getting a Pre Plus is the lack of Mic API. It really needs to happen, as it seems to be the most desired feature right now.

      Access to the microphone was announced in the keynote for the recent developer day. It’s coming in a future OS version, but isn’t available yet.
